The Mind-Muscle Connection. Strength Train with your Brain.

A while back, early 2001, exercise physiologist Guang Yue at Ohio's Cleveland Clinic Foundation* came upon a startling discovery; based on his hypothesis, because the mind controls the movement of the body, if you were to intentionally put more psychic energy (a fancy term for “brain power” or “thought”) into a muscle group you weren't even working, then, simply by virtue of higher electrical impulses in your motor neurons (those itty-bitty guys responsible for muscle control), you could get stronger. Crazy, right? Well, it's not as far-fetched as it may seem.

Why Wait? Lets Find Our Motivation

I love meeting new people and being in social situations.  And over the past few years I have started noticing a pattern with most conversations.  When I tell people where I work, the rest of the conversation is focused around fitness and diet.  For those who are not already working out or clean eating, I notice they always say, "I am waiting for......"  And it is always a date.  The end or beginning of the year, my birthday, next month, and so on.  I always have the same response.  Why wait?  When I eat clean and workout regularly, I feel great, sleep better, and I feel good in my clothes.  Setting a date to start a healthier lifestyle is not motivation.  I know getting started can be difficult.  It's change and sometimes change can be difficult.  But you know we all have to start somewhere.  So ask yourself what you want.  Why wait to start achieving your goal?  Find your motivation.  Why wait?  Get motivated today!!!  Lets feel good today!!!  http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/diet-fitness/exercise/10-weird-ways-to-diet-exercise.htm

Isometric Training and Cardio Worked for Me, It Can for You

One morning I woke up and thought, "Man you let yourself go."  I decided I was not going to let my weight control me.  It was time to take control.  I asked myself two questions.  What do I want and how can I get there?  The answer to one was simple in the beginning... I needed to lose about 50 lbs.  I was overweight and out of shape.  But how?  With all the new technology, new exercises, and new programs out there what will help me get maximum results.  The answer came quick.  My body started responding to an isometric training style and timed cardio.  
First I would isolate 2-3 muscles groups that day.  Maybe Monday is back, bi's, and abs.  For weight loss I chose 6 exercises, did 3 sets of 15 reps per exercise.  Turned out to be about 300 reps in about 30 - 40 minutes.  Now it's cardio time.  I started walking for 30 minutes and gradually started jogging a little at a time.  The next thing I knew a 5k was no big deal.  8 months later I was down 60 lbs. I well surpassed my goal.
There you have it.  My weight loss journey that started with weights and cardio.  And for me it worked.  I have tried new techniques and styles but I always fall back to to my old friend who helped me in the beginning. Isometric training and cardio worked for me, it can for you?
